: A STAGE IN A PROCESS OF CHANGE OR DEVELOPMENT
At Chasing Unicorns the ultimate goal has always been to make dreamy, keepsake clothes for the extraordinary women of the world no matter the phase of life they may be living. We desire to always to impart strength, courage, beauty and all the goddess vibes in every design we create for every woman who wears them. Recently, we caught up with local Mumma of three…soon to be four, hypnobirthing practitioner, doula and most incredibly inspiring woman, Amy Osmanhodzic to talk all things baby bump, kids and the many phases and journeys of life ever twisting path. We hope you find this little insight into her magic world as insightful, compelling and refreshing as Amy herself truly is.
WHAT WORDS WOULD YOU USE TO DESCRIBE YOURSELF?
A woman with many different titles - mother, lawyer, hypnobirthing practitioner, birth doula. Easy going. Happy. Loved up. Organised. Introvert.
TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR DAY TO DAY LIFE?
Well, right now I’m deep within the motherhood journey with two kids at full-time school and another one at preschool. I also juggle part-time corporate work during the week at the moment too. But my weekends are fun and always consist of beach or waterfall hangs and unplanned road trips with my little family. Soon though our day-to-day life is about to be turned upside down when we welcome our fourth and final babe into the world. I cannot wait to slow down and spend winter at home in our beautiful newborn bliss bubble.
YOU ARE PREGNANT WITH YOUR 4TH BABY, HOW ARE YOU FINDING THIS PREGNANCY WITH THE ENERGY AND DEMANDS OF YOUR WORK, LIFE AND OTHER CHILDREN?
I am so fortunate to have very normal pregnancies with no complications, to be honest, so far it has been easy. My three other children are at such great ages now (Harper is 8, Archie is 6 and Mabel is 3 and a half) so they are really independent and helpful. We do have a lot going on in our lives right now though as we are just in the middle of taking over a new business so I have been very distracted and the weeks are just flying by. I’m now in my third trimester so I’m starting to slow down and I’m definitely looking forward to getting through the next month of craziness so I can finally start focusing on myself, baby and birthing the final piece of our life puzzle.
SHARE WITH US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY TO BECOMING A BIRTH DOULA AND HYPNOBIRTHING PRACTITIONER.
In my pre-baby life I was a lawyer but after the homebirth of my first daughter, Harper, my life changed forever. After her birth, I became so passionate about wanting to spread the positive birth message to the world and to tell more people about just how amazing HypnoBirthing was. It took me a few more years to take the big leap but when I was 20 weeks pregnant with my third baby, Mabel, I trained to become a HypnoBirthing practitioner and birth doula and it has been the most rewarding career I have ever had. Nothing compares to watching a baby being born and a woman becoming a mother for the very first time. I feel so glad to have found something that fills my love tank right up but which I can also call my work.
YOU MOVED YOUR FAMILY FROM W.A TO THE BEAUTIFUL BYRON HILLS A FEW YEARS BACK, WHAT PROMPTED THIS MOVE? HOW HAS YOUR LIFE CHANGED SINCE THE MOVE?
I had lived my whole life in Perth and after a few holidays to Byron we just knew that we wanted to make the move and grow our kids up in the country. We went from living in a small house in a big city to half an acre in the beautiful Byron Hinterlands town of Bexhill. We now have cows that come up to our fence, chickens in our backyard, no TV, the most beautiful tribe of friends and some of the best beaches in Australia only a short drive away. I often pinch myself that this is our home and I am always reminding the kids just how lucky they are to grow up in paradise! I know it’s not the area for everyone but it’s one that suits us so perfectly. We are so happy here.
WHAT ARE THE VALUES AND PASSION THAT YOU HOPE TO INSTILL AND NURTURE IN YOUR CHILDREN?
The biggest lesson I hope to teach my children is to always be a kind human. I don’t care what they end up doing in life so long as they are a respectful and kind human, I will be very very happy. We live in a weird world right now where people are so quick to post hurtful words and comments behind the safety of a keyboard so I’m a big believer that if you don’t have anything kind to say, then don’t say it at all.
WE ARE SO FORTUNATE AS MUMMAS IN THE NORTHERN RIVERS TO KEEP THE COMPANY OF SO MANY BEAUTIFUL, OPEN, LOVING, INSPIRING, STRONG AND SUPPORTIVE WOMEN AND FELLOW MOTHERS. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE IMPORTANCE OF YOUR TRIBE?
Oh gosh, yes this is so important. Living on the complete opposite side of the country to every member of our family certainly has its challenges but I can honestly say that the transition has been easy thanks to all the beautiful women (and men) I have in my life. We came here knowing no-one and now we have formed some of the best friendships we have ever had. It makes me so happy to be surrounded by so many like-minded mamas who celebrate and embrace the way we have chosen to raise our family.
WHEN YOU GET A QUIET MOMENT, WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO BEST?
A quiet moment with three almost four children - what is that?! Haha! I’m actually really bad at taking time out for myself, especially since we moved to the Northern Rivers away from all family help. I do feel like everything that we do here, we always do it with our babies in tow. I’m not sad about that though. I am loving this stage of motherhood and know that it goes way too quickly. One day soon enough I’ll have more quiet moments to enjoy.
YOU FEEL MOST BEAUTIFUL WHEN?
Pregnant. I am so lucky to have had four very easy pregnancies and I think growing a human is one of the most amazing things a woman can do. I definitely feel my most beautiful with a big round baby bump 🧡
