As the Spring 2019 collections sashay down the runways in New York, London and Paris we have been captivated by the out of this world, majestic and dreamy fashion looks brought to life by the extraordinary imaginations of the fashion design elite. At Chasing Unicorns we have been inspired by some of the emerging trends strutting down the catwalks and in the spirit of being caught in the whirlwind of a full-blown fashion love affair we decided to stage our very own mini runway shoot to showcase some of our most treasured and exquisite looks that sit in line with these trends. The major trends of the season's shows were distinct and easily translatable from high fashion to real life. These trends included some major colour statements and some even more major nostalgic nods, that as you know, is something near-and-dear to the Chasing Unicorns heart.
Romance is back with a capital R in all its soft-edged, hazy, magnificent beauty. Think delicate colourways, ruffles, soft sleeves and billowy dresses. This is a trend that personifies Chasing Unicorns style and one that flows naturally through our designs. Romantic looks are fabulous as stand-alone pieces, paired back with a killer jacket for a statement look or made edgier with leather accessories…it's the smaller details that matter with this trend, delicate buttons, hand embroidery and velvet trim.
This is a trend that was made for us here at Chasing Unicorns as there is nothing we adore more than this age-old artisan technique that speaks directly of the 70’s. From dresses to oversized bags crochet dominated the shows with designers embracing the handmade nostalgic aesthetic. At Chasing Unicorns many of our dresses are finished with hand crocheted trim and panelling as our way of paying homage to the disco decade and to the true artisan techniques of the past. Crochet in fashion can be overtly pretty and chic or made a little tougher depending on the styling so don’t be afraid to be bold with your choices whilst ensuring that you keep the look clean and not too busy.
Fashion has fallen back in love with the waist, thank goodness, and everything from pants, jumpsuits and belts were cut to perfection and cinched firmly on it. This silhouette is most fabulous for the every day and is easy to achieve whether you don a chic pair of waisted trousers and team them with a vintage belt to really accentuate that glorious waist of yours or wrap a divinely toned scarf around the waist of a flowing dress for a look that is effortless, clean and ever so fashion forwards (or past…?)
Marigold, sunshine, hay and soft buttercup - yellow in all its myriad of tones is the standout colour of the season and was seen brightening the runways on everything from dreamy gowns to tailored suits and I believe there was even a PVC raincoat or two to be seen. Yellow to us at Chasing Unicorns is the ideal spring colour with its vibrant happiness, nostalgic undertones and gorgeous nature-based connotations. Yellow is surprisingly easy to incorporate as a colour into your wardrobe and can be worn trans-seasonally to add some sunshine into your life, think floaty silk and soft cotton dresses and the sweetest of statement jackets.
This is a trend that quietly and oh so politely screams good taste in the way that only flawless construction, luxe fabrics, timeless cuts and bespoke hand detailing can. This is fashion for the grown-ups at its very best and most exquisite. From hand sequinned ruffled cuffs and delicate starburst embroidery to cape sleeves and gold soutache trims, we at Chasing unicorns live for the understated chic that accompanies this old worldly and ever so glamorous aesthetic.
