A few weeks back we shared with you the story of Bohannah Gerritsen and her family who were travelling around Australia in their caravan on a most epic adventure…as a continuation of this journal, we bring to you another inspiring tale from across the globe of Alexis Kaiser and her beautiful family who are midway through the ultimate U.S.A Road trip in a vintage '66 trailer. Like Bohannah and her tribe, it seems that Alexis and her beloveds have also found tranquillity, connection and freedom in this adventure-filled, simpler life. We caught up with the ever gorgeous Alexis for a chat about pregnancy, little folk, trailer living and the intrinsic beauty of life on USA’s open roads.
I’m a very simple-minded woman, who’s creative, longs for the comfort and peace Mother Nature gives, and a woman who loves being a mother, stubborn in my ways, but equally kind.
Every day it changes! But since selling most of our belongings and living in our trailer it starts with the sun peeking through our vintage caravan and the sound of birds all around. Adam (my husband) gets up before us so Billie and I take our time getting up. Sometimes we read books, others we go and enjoy the warmth of the sun. Our days involve lots of exploring and discovering. Billie loves to be outside and is constantly on the go so I’m just busy chasing her around all day and watching her learn about the world! It’s the best. Our evenings end with books, lots of love and cuddles and the sound of crickets all around.
It’s been so wonderful and has been full of so many unexpected bends in the road. We spent the first month of our travels with Adam’s family in Michigan and had some fun exploring on the way there and back. Now we are in Utah and actually staying in my parents home because I have quite a few baby appointments (I’m 20.5 weeks pregnant with baby no. 2) so we are taking advantage of the hot showers and air conditioning. There’s nothing like the slowness and stillness that caravan life has to offer. It really puts things into perspective. But it definitely comes with a challenge! We co-sleep with our 13 month old and when you add to that a pregnant mama and a tall dad all in one double bed, it’s a tight squeeze, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!
Adam and I had talked for months about going on this journey. When we had originally started planning everything we didn’t know we were pregnant. Upon driving across the country to pick up our caravan we shortly found out we were pregnant after. That obviously changed things a ton, but we still knew this was one of the only times in our lives we could do such a thing. Billie loves to be outdoors and there is so much of the states we haven’t seen. We needed to take a big purge in life. We had acquired so many “things”. It felt amazing to get rid of so much stuff and cleanse through and through. We are so happy we ended up doing it!!
We drove through Yellowstone National Park on a misty day and it was BEAUTIFUL. We are headed up to the Pacific North West in the coming weeks, and I feel like that might just be the highlight of it all!
I love to spend time with my family! Just being with them is the best ever. We love to eat, and love to be outside. So a combination of the both makes my heart happy.
I want my children to be passionate, caring and adventurous. Kind and generous. Humble. I never want them to lose their sense of the magic of childhood. I want to encourage them to reach and work hard for their dreams. To be kind and passionate towards animals and take good care of Mother Earth. But mostly, I want to encourage my children to be individuals and do everything I can to nurture and support the human that they’re meant to be.
I have gone through many phases of my personal style, and continue to do so. But I find that what I’m experiencing in life heavily influences my personal style. I’m always inspired by the seasons of the Earth, and the seasons of my life. It’s fun to switch it up!
My go-to outfit definitely has to be a linen jumpsuit or a comfortable flowy dress! With this bump and this heat, I need things to be as comfortable as possible!
I love to listen to podcasts. Enjoy some lemon water or tea. Meditate. Yoga. And sometimes just enjoy the stillness. It feels so good to connect your mind with complete presence. I also love to cook! Cooking fuels my happiness and my body!
I feel most beautiful when I’m surrounded by the ones I love most. Adam and Billie. They make me feel whole like I’ve never felt before. I couldn’t love their energy and presence more!
